An oral appliance is a two piece device that is placed over upper and lower teeth to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
Mechanism of Action: Maintain an open airway during sleep by preventing the jaw to fall back or by advancement of the mandible and tongue.
Types of Devices: Partially customized devices and fully customized devices.
Type I: Partial custom device (pre-fabricated) is customized in the Doctor's office and is available for use by the customer immediately.
Type II: Fully Custom device requires intraoral digital scanning in the doctor's office followed by custom manufacturing that has a lead time of about 3-4 weeks. The device is fitted to the customer in the physician's office upon production.
Type III: Custom device like Type II with additional built-in tracking capability to meet FAA or CDL compliance requirements.
